European Counselling & Psychotherapy Associations
- The European Association for Counselling (EAC) is the driving force for Counselling in Europe and plays a pivotal role in promoting counselling as a profession and its contribution to the mental health and well-being of all Europeans.
- The European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) was founded in June 1991. According to the EAP Statutes 2.1 “It is a non-profit organisation that aims to unite psychotherapy organisations into a common association, and organises individual psychotherapists of different orientations in Europe“.
- The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) has a primary purpose to support counsellors and help them better serve their clients. The BACP was formed nearly 40 years ago by a group of counsellors who were passionate about the value of counselling and its potential to improve the lives of individuals and communities. This passion and commitment, and the knowledge that counselling changes lives, are still at the heart of everything we do.
- The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is the UK’s leading professional body for the education, training and accreditation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors.
- The Association of Counsellors of Orientation Psychologues founded in 1931. Its goals and objectives are to bring together professionals in the educational and vocational guidance, to be a place of exchange and debate, to ensure compliance with the ethics own professions of psychology and advice, to defend the moral interests of the profession and contribute to the development of information and guidance of education to promote psychology and the humanities in favor of education and guidance and to promote research in these areas to enhance the Centres for Information and Orientation (IOC) as local public services, to contribute to issues related to education, training, orientation, and develop, in France and internationally, relations with other organizations, especially those that bring together psychologists.
Associations
- The European Network for Positive Psychology (ENPP) is a collective of European researchers and practitioners with shared interests in the science and practice of positive psychology. Researchers and practitioners from other disciplines like economics, sociology, philosophy or biology are also invited to participate.
- The French and Francophone Association of Positive Psychology (AFfPP) Law 1901 association and nonprofit, is a partner organization of the French Psychological Society (SFP).
- The Institute of Health Promotion and Education (IHPE) was established 50 years ago to bring together professional workers on the basis of their common interest in Health Education and Health Promotion with a view to their sharing experience, ideas and information. The Institute is a recognised professional association offering Full or Associate membership to those engaged in the practice of Health Education and Health Promotion. The Institute concerns itself solely with professional interests and activities related to the practice of Health Education and Health Promotion and does not undertake any trade union activities.
- The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) is the only Chartered body for health and safety professionals in the world. IOSH was founded in 1945 and have been registered as a charity since 1962. In 2002 IOSH were awarded a Royal Charter. As the largest health and safety membership organisation in the world, IOSH has more than 44,000 individual members in over 100 countries. IOSH makes responses to Government papers on health and wellbeing.
- The International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA) was founded in 2007 with a tri-part mission: To promote the science of positive psychology and its research-based applications. To facilitate collaboration among researchers, teachers, students, and practitioners of positive psychology around the world and across academic disciplines. To share the findings of positive psychology with the broadest possible audience.
- The International Stress Management Association (UK) is a registered charity with a multi-disciplinary professional membership that includes the UK and the Republic of Ireland. It exists to promote sound knowledge and best practice in the prevention and reduction of human stress. It sets professional standards for the benefit of individuals and organisations using the services of its members.
- The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) is an independent, multi-disciplinary charity dedicated to the improvement of the public’s health and wellbeing. Formed in October 2008 with the merger of the Royal Society of Health and the Royal Institute of Public Health, we help inform policy and practice, working to educate, empower and support communities and individuals to live healthily.
Research institutions & universities
The Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania has a mission to promote research, training, education, and the dissemination of Positive Psychology.
The Well-being Institute (WBI) is a cross-disciplinary initiative at the University of Cambridge that promotes the highest quality research in the science of well-being.
Wellbeing Charters
- The Workplace Wellbeing Charter is an opportunity for employers to demonstrate their commitment to the health and well-being of their workforce. The positive impact that employment can have on health and wellbeing is now well documented. There is also strong evidence to show how having a healthy workforce can reduce sickness absence, lower staff turnover and boost productivity – this is good for employers, workers and the wider economy.
Journals
- The International Journal of Stress Prevention and Wellbeing seeks articles with a focus on theory, research and practice of stress, stress prevention and management. There is a particular focus on stress prevention interventions. Editorials are written by the editors on topics of general interest or journal policy.
- The International Journal of Wellbeing was launched on 31st January 2011 in order to promote interdisciplinary research on wellbeing. The editorial team are dedicated to open access for academic research, and to making the journal’s content permanently free for all readers and authors.
- The International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being (QHW) provides an Open Access peer reviewed meeting-point for studies using rigorous qualitative methodology of significance for issues related to human health and well-being. The Journal aims to support and shape the emerging field of qualitative studies and to encourage the development of tools for a better understanding of all aspects of human health and well-being.
Other organisations
- The Centre for Coaching is an international training centre and consultancy established in 2001. It is a leading training provider of coaching, psychological coaching and coaching psychology courses. As a coach training provider since 2001 it has trained over 1500 national and international students/delegates.
- The Centre for Stress Management, established in 1987, is an international training centre and stress consultancy. It provides stress management and prevention programmes, cognitive behavioural therapy training and coaching, stress audits and research, and stress counselling.
- The Easyhealth website has many free downloadable health guides on a wide range of topics. This website is run by Generate. Generate is a charity (charity number 1069548).
Useful resources
The Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue University houses writing resources and instructional material, and we provide these as a free service of the Writing Lab at Purdue. It includes an APA and MLA guides which are very useful in assisting inexperienced authors and students in writing using the APA and MLA styles.119
