Biography
Jo Hensel: As a musician with a background in psychology and wide experience in Arts Education, Jo has been coaching clients in the arts, education and charity sectors for a decade both in private practice and as a Guildhall Coaching Associate. She is accredited at Senior Practitioner level with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council and over the past few years, has undertaken CPD with the Centre for Stress Management gaining the Certificate in REBT earlier this year. Having been appointed Deputy Head of the Wind, Brass and Percussion Department at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2011, and then the school’s first Performance Confidence Associate in 2021, Jo has a keen interest in the psychological challenges facing student musicians. She is currently undertaking PhD research into the impact of a Rational Emotive Behavioural Coaching intervention on the psychological wellbeing and performance anxiety of conservatoire music students, supervised by Professor Stephen Palmer and Dr Karen Wise. As a horn player, Jo has been a member of the world-renowned chamber orchestra, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields since 1998. She continues to perform, tour and record with the orchestra and plays an active role in its outreach and education programme.
